PROBLEM

Monash University knew it was important for new students to have a support base when they arrived, but were finding that wasn't always the case for their international students.

SOLUTION

A communications platform that encouraged useful and positive social interactions between new international students, existing students and staff.

BACKGROUND

A kickoff exploration and ideation workshop was run, including representatives of University staff, international students and business owners. This resulted in a wide view of ideas, desirable features, pain points and associated emotions.

The concept that came out of that was creating the University's own social network. The idea was to make new students feel welcomed into the Monash Community from the moment they enrolled; from the first steps of socially connecting, to finding friends and creating an ongoing support network.

The product was such a success, the platform is now being expanded to include all of Monash’s students and the entire faculty staff, as well as the university’s alumni.
